Module Assembly

BFL provides value to our clients through early contractor involvement services and complete self-perform capabilities, which reduces risk and provides certainty throughout execution.

Our support starts early in the design phase as we assist in developing specialized modular solutions and off-site fabrication assembly strategies that will achieve the unique requirements for each project. This approach provides our clients with cost certainly, quality, and schedule control and reduces project risks by transferring work off-site to our controlled fabrication facility.

Our facility is located on the high-load corridor and has over 10 acres of dedicated module assembly and material staging space.

Self-Framed Module Buildings
This over-sized building is an example of our many self-frame building packages that we have completed. BFL designs and fabricates the structural skid base, assembles the self-frame building system and assembles all interior components, including mechanical equipment, piping, electrical, controls and other items. All modules are tested and pre-commissioned prior to shipping.

Ridged Framed Module Buildings
BFL self-performs early contractor involvement, design, fabrication and assembly of ridged framed buildings. This structure included a monorail system that services the mechanical equipment inside the module building.
This project included multiple turnkey buildings that were assembled, tested and shipped to the project site in a Northern Alberta.

Electrical Module Buildings
This over-dimensional building was 24ft wide x 110ft long and weighed approximately 320,000 lbs. The structure was fabricated in BFL’s fabrication shop and assembled in the module assembly yard. We performed design support, structural steel fabrication and assembly, mechanical equipment procurement and installation, piping fabrication and assembly, building cladding and electrical integration. This project included multiple turnkey buildings of similar size that were assembled, tested and shipped to the project site in a Northern Alberta.

Self-Framed Module Buildings
BFL provides design support and early contractor services to de-risk our client’s projects. Our experience self-performing complete module services provides our projects with improved cost certainty. This building package included structural steel fabrication, building cladding, HVAC systems and equipment, process piping, electrical integration, system testing and pre-commissioning.

Pipe Rack Modules
This project involved design support to reduce the amount of stick-build steel erection on-site and to implement the most optimal module strategy for the project. Services include structural steel fabrication and assembly, process piping fabrication and assembly, heat tracing, electrical integration, and piping insulation. All work was completed in BFL’s 10-acre assembly yard.

Electrical equipment installed and integrated into one of seven module e-house buildings. Our services included receipt of free-issued equipment, procurement, installation of all electrical components including cable tray and cabling through to building testing and pre-commissioning. Building was transported to a Northern Alberta site and provided electrical distribution for a large camp facility.

Module e-house that was fabricated, assembled, testing and pre-commissioning for an OEM supplier of electrical equipment. Building was manufactured and transported to a Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario.

Pipe Fabrication

BFL is a total solution provider for all your piping needs. Our facility has multiple fabrication bays that are equipped with welding stations, overhead cranes and CNC equipment. Our fabrication shop is supported by onsite NDT, hydrotest stations, and have over 10 acres of material storage and laydown. In addition to this infrastructure, our team has experience with robotic welding and a wide range of materials and modern welding equipment. Our extensive database of welding procedures can accommodate any project, big or small. This provides our clients with a one-stop shop for all their fabrication needs.

Steel Fabrication

BFL fabricates structural and miscellaneous steel. We have in-house connection designers, detailers, and a shop that is equipped with CNC plate cutting and proccing equipment. We fabricate components of all shapes and sizes, including miscellaneous embedded steel, handrails, stick built structural steel, over dimensional frames and skids, and anything in between. By self-performing complete fabrication and module services, we can coordinate all off-site fabrication works through a single point of contact, providing synergies for our manufacturing process and our clients.

Our steel fabrication services include the following:

  • Connection design and TEKLA drafting
  • Fabrication and coating of structural steel
  • Fabrication and coating of miscellaneous embedded steel, platforms, ladders, and handrails
  • Fabrication and assembly of skids, modules, galleries, and other over-dimensional components

Embed Plates
Fabrication of embedded plates for reinforcing concrete. Embedded plates ranged from 1/4” plate to 2” plate and typically include nelson studs. BFL’s stud welding capabilities are set up for high capacity and quality welding.

Structural steel racking
As we self-perform all services, we often supply and install electrical racking systems and cable trays to our structural steel, either in the shop or module yard. If engaged for early contractor involvement, we can design racks to have off-site assembly maximized using frames or modular units. This reduces on-site safety exposure, site manhours and improves cost certainty.

Stick-Built Structural Steel Fabrication
BFL also performs connection design, detailing using TEKLA structures and procurement as part of our structural steel service offerings. Our organization follows a stringent process from project kick off through fabrication through to documentation turnover.

Structural Steel Skid Fabrication
BFL ensures all module work undergoes clash detection and is fabricated accordingly to the interfaces with mechanical, electrical and building envelope. As we self-perform all services, our inhouse groups have processes to ensure connection points are designed and that we eliminate any module yard rework.
